What Is The
Six Pillar Framework?
The six pillar framework is holistic approach to community development that we have adopted to enable us deliver a well rounded service to the needs of the young people and wider community.
Education
What?
– Providing homework club
– Tutorship/Mentorship
– Additional educational support (stationary, uniform, tuition fees etc)
– Supporting children disenfranchised out of the education system due to poverty/financial hardship.
Why?
– To support young people with basic literacy and numeracy skills, skills for professional employment opportunities.
– To increase access to education for the people in the La community and provide them with the resources and equipment needed to engage meaningfully in education related activities.
– To address the hazardous, detrimental and exploitative practice of child labour.
Recreational
Activities
What?
– To provide a playful child-centered environment
– Safe space to allow personalities to flourish
– Positive alternative to local street vices
– Team experiences foster sense of belonging
Why?
- World Health Organisation recommends children/ young people engage in at least one hour of vigorous exercise a day.
– Helps to maintain/improve the physical and mental health of the participants.
– An alternative to formal education to teach character development.
– Helps to develop cognitive skills. Improves creativity and problem solving
– Enables children develop skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.
Scholarships
What?
– Provision of partial and full scholarships for the most financially vulnerable S2S participants
Why?
– The families/parents/guardians of some ‘S2S’ participants cannot afford school expenses, resources or equipment
– Some children have been disenfranchised out of the school system for extended periods due to lack of support
– To address the hazardous, detrimental and exploitative practice of child labour.
– To enable academic high achievers to actualise their potential
Vocational Skills Development
What?
– Sourcing local vocational opportunities for ‘S2S’ participants as an alternative to a strict academic pathway
– Examples: Fashion Design, Media, Hair and Beauty, Art/Design.
Why?
– To broaden the scope of opportunities for ‘S2S’ graduates by providing more inclusive exit routes
– Exposure to professionals in all sorts of careers broadens horizons and elevates ambition.
-To address the hazardous, detrimental and exploitative practice of child labor.
Healthcare
Provision
What?
– Enrolling participants in the national health insurance scheme
– Supporting families with payments for major health costs.
Why?
– To advance life by enabling access to healthcare for the ‘S2S’ participants who would otherwise have none
Community
Outreach
What?
– Building relationships with the families of S2S participants to foster more efficient utilisation of funds in relation to the needs of participants.
– Engaging with the children’s families in taking a whole family approach to help with best methods of supporting and assisting in advancing their life and education as stipulated in the objects clause.
-Regular house to house Visitation
Why?
– Community integration that allows ‘S2S’ to gain awareness and meet the needs of the environment that the participants are in.
– Safeguards against attempting to use foreign strategic planning to solve local issues.
